My bio
I have decades of experience as a journalist, editor and editorial leader within B2B publishing businesses, with a particular emphasis on content marketing for professional associations, consulting firms and multinationals.
Along the way, I've been named Business Editor of the Year by the British Society of Magazine Editors (BSME) and achieved huge increases in traffic, won new business worth millions and – hopefully – delighted my clients and audiences. Find out more below...
Editor in chief and business director
From 2019, I worked as editor in chief for Wonderly, Haymarket's UK-based content marketing agency. I led editorial teams working on behalf of clients including the CIPD (including the People Management and Work. brands), CIPS, the Society of Radiographers and the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, among others, as well as leading numerous new business pitches. As business director of the well-respected Management Today brand, I oversaw strategy and all commercial and financial performance and developed new awards and events products.
Senior editor
I led the editorial pitch in 2012 which won the media business of the CIPD – one of the world's largest HR membership bodies – for Haymarket, a contract which went on to encompass multiple magazines and live events. During my time leading the People Management brand and overseeing the wider CIPD editorial business, I oversaw a 200% increase in web traffic and developed an award-winning thought leadership title, Work.
Editor
I first edited the pioneering internet magazine the net in the 2000s before specialising in customer magazines and websites, working on behalf of a huge range of clients, from the International Baccalaureate and KPMG to Canon Europe and DHL UK.
Journalist
With a background as a local newspaper reporter and time spent as a casual sub-editor for The Sunday Times, I have an all-round journalistic skillset but feature writing and interviewing is my speciality – I was staff writer at the football magazine FourFourTwo for two years and also wrote for titles including Sky Sports magazine and internet magazine the net.
Awards
I've been BSME Business Editor of the Year (2014) and have been nominated for the same honour by the PPA. Brands I've led have won awards from the BSME, PPA, Memcom, the Association Excellence Awards and the Content Marketing Awards.
Books and other writing
I've written two books on the history of English football, one of which is still available. I've written football match reports for national newspapers, edited the Rough Guide to Cult Fiction (much of which I also wrote) and wrote gig and album reviews while working for nme.com.
